EDGEWOOD,
IOWA – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) stopped at the Edgewood Locker this morning
as part of his annual 99 county meetings across Iowa. Grassley toured the newly
expanded locker and held a question-and-answer session with 33 of their
employees. Grassley is a family farmer and member of the Senate Agriculture
Committee.
“Edgewood
Locker is a third-generation family business in rural Iowa that is focused on
supporting the family farmer and local consumers. Lockers like this one help independent
producers get a fair price for their livestock rather than rely on the Big Four
meatpackers. I applaud businesses like the Edgewood Locker, and I’m working in
Washington to expand market fairness for Iowa’s cattle producers. Through my
question-and-answer sessions in every county, every year, I learn what issues
matter most to Iowans and am better able to represent them in Washington,” Grassley said.
“It
was an incredible honor to have Senator Grassley visit our locker today. He is
a senator who has fought for what we truly believe in and enjoy doing here. I
think it is great that he goes to every county every year. I admire his
commitment,” Terry Kerns, co-owner of
Edgewood Locker said.
Grassley
discussed his two bipartisan
bills
that recently passed out of the Senate Agriculture Committee to tackle anti-competitive
behavior among large meat packers. He answered questions on inflation, energy
dependence and the national debt.
This
is Grassley’s 42nd year of holding meetings in every one of
Iowa’s 99 counties.
Grassley has held at least one meeting in every county, every year since he was
first elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. He takes questions on any subject.
Iowans set the agenda.
