Pigford Settlement Claims

I introduced bipartisan legislation today with Senator Hagan of North Carolina that ensures that African American farmers who successfully filed claims as a result of the 2008 farm bill receive the funds they are entitled to.  I've continued to work to help black farmers that were unjustly discriminated against by the Department of Agriculture.  This legislation allows successful claimants from the 2008 farm bill access to the Treasury Department's permanent appropriated judgment fund, once the funding authorized in the farm bill has been used.  We always knew the farm bill was a good first step, but this new legislation ensures that funding will be available to successful claimants is through the same fund that was used in the first round of Pigford v. Glickman claims.
